Premises Liability

Slip and Fall: What do I do now?

A slip and fall accident can be painful and have long last effects.  When can a person recover damages for a slip and fall, and what should be done after you have been in this type of accident?

First of all, a person injured in a slip and fall accident should take all steps to get medical attention.  Secondly, immediately document what happened.  Where exactly were you?  What caused the fall?  Who else was around?  What was the reaction of the property owner?  What did the property owner do when they became aware of the accident?  As soon as possible, write down every scrap of information that might have any impact on the accident.

Next, if possible, take (or have someone else) take photographs of the scene.  A photograph can be extremely helpful in understanding the cause of the accident, and whether the owner is responsible.

An owner is potentially liable if they knew, or should have known, about the condition that caused the accident.  The sooner you contact an attorney about your accident, the better chances you will have to prevail in a case.
