Violent Car Crash Leaves San Diego Police Officers Injured

Two San Diego Police Officers were injured in a violent crash with a speeding pickup truck Thursday, and are feeling lucky to be alive.  News 8 San Diego reports that the two officers recuperating from injuries that could have been much worse.  Officer Tim Bell suffered a concussion and injury to his right leg while Officer Healey suffered injuries to his left arm and lower back.  The driver of the pickup remains in a medically induced coma due to a serious head injury.

The officers attempted to pull over the pickup about 4:30 a.m. when they saw it going the wrong way on 43rd Street near Landis.  The truck sped off.  As the officers were slowly driving the adjacent streets looking for the vehicle, the pickup ran a stop sign at Altadena Ave.  The pickup was estimated to be driving about 50 mph before it smashed into the right side of the patrol car.  After smashing into the patrol car, the pickup veered out of control and smashed into several parked vehicles.  The driver was thrown from the vehicle, unconscious.  At least 15 total vehicles were damaged in the accident.
