Hit and Run Driver Injures Man in Wheelchair
National City Police report that a man in a wheelchair suffered a severe head injury when he was struck by a hit and run driver on Christmas morning. The 57 year old victim was riding on a motorized scooter/wheelchair along the shoulder of Paradise Road near East 8th Street when he was struck from behind by a Burgundy Pickup truck traveling about 50 mph. The Wheelchair was totally destroyed and the man was sent flying through the air. The driver of the pickup reportedly stopped only long enough to remove debris from below his truck, and then took off. The driver, Joshua Becerra, was later arrested after he contacted police about the accident.The unidentified victim is in serious condition and hospitalized with a severe head injury.
