Metrolink Introduces Crash Absorbing Trains

Metrolink is introducing a new fleet of passenger train cars built to better withstand the force of a head on collision.  The rail agency claims that the new cars, designed to better withstand the crushing force of a collision, are the safest train cars in America.  The new cars have front end compartments that are designed to buckle in a collision and channel the forces away from passengers. The manufacturer of the train cars, Hyundai-Rotem, stated that the new Metrolink cars are not being used anywhere else in the United States, and perhaps the world.

Metrolink has had several notable accidents in the past.  A 2005 collision with a care in Glendale killed 11 passengers, while a head on crash with a car in Chatsworth killed 25 in 2008.
